Rappelling at Kondana waterfall

Kondana waterfall is in Karjat Dist about 80 km from Mumbai. It is a natural waterfall (80 ft ) and at the bottom of the waterfall there are caves carved out by Buddhist monks. Most of it has been destroyed by earthquakes, water and very recently vandals who have no concern for history engraved in stone. We started off at 6:30 meeting the rest of the trek group and caught a bus to the Kondivile village. After getting off at the village it is an hour of trek up that gets you to the base of the waterfall. The waterfall is a beautiful site with water gushing down and smashing on the rocks creating a terrific spray.

A team had set up ropes and were doing safety checks on the equipment. After gearing up, we trekked up the treacherous climb that took us to the top of the fall. The most exciting part of rappelling is the time when you let go of the rock surface and are freely suspended. The adrenaline rush when you look down and then just push off the cliff edge is amazing.

After getting down I realized that my bag with my mobile and wallet was stolen. It was a harrowing experience calling up all the banks and canceling all the cards and then reapplying for all of them. Even more harrowing is applying for the driving license and membership cards. The loss compounded with the lost mobile and all the contacts is of no help either.

Finally it was time for zorbing but with all the time wasted in looking for my bag we just zorbed down a small slope. Two more activities ticked off my todo list :)
